Welcome

From JFA Newsletter no. 1, November 1984

Welcome to what we hope will be a long line of Junkins Family Association newsletters. Most of you who are reading this now have received correspondence from me in the past, some in 1979 when my wife, Betty, and I were preparing to travel to Scotland in search of the birthplace of Robert Junkins, our progenitor.

In July of this year, we sent a form letter to 557 Junkins in the United States asking these two questions:

  1. Are you interested in a Junkins Family Association, or at least hearing more about it?
  2. Would you supply us with the names and addresses of other family members (parents, grandparents, uncles, aunts, and even distant cousins) who might be interested even if you are not?

We have received replies from 68 of you on that list. That's pretty good! Well over 12%. All but two of the replies were positive, including one family that was about to leave for Scotland and wanted to know where to look for Robert Junkins' homestead. Most replies, at least wanted to hear more about the association. Many new names and addresses were added to our list and there were several who asked, "How can you run a family association without any funds?"

I'm glad you asked. Up to this time, Betty and I have financed the first two mailings and this newsletter production in an effort to find out if anyone really cares about the Junkins family in America. The response has been good and now we are going to turn around and ask for your help! We are asking you to become a charter member of the "Junkins Family Association" by sending a check made payable to the "Junkins Family Association" for $10.00. This will make you a charter member in the association and pay your membership through December 31, 1985. In return, you will receive a membership card and at least two more newsletters including all the news and information about the happenings of the Association. We hope to be able to bring you information and news of other Junkins family members, history and interesting stories of Robert Junkins and his descendants.

Please use the enclosed "Charter Membership" application on the inside back cover of this newsletter and send as soon as possible to:
