Richard Charles Hathaway

Richard C. Hathaway, 96, of Pomona, CA died August 29, 2007 at Montclair Hospital Medical Center. He was born September 30, 1910 in Chicago, IL, graduated from Pomona College in 1933, married Gertrude Bradbury Withington9 (a fellow Pomona College classmate) in 1935, and was a Pomona resident for more than 70 years. Mr. Hathaway owned weed control and pest control businesses for many years.

He was a member of Pilgrim Congregational Church; was very active in the L.A. Farm Bureau; and was a long-time square dancer. He was an avid genealogist and wrote a book entitled "Colvins of Fayette: Some Descendants of Dr. William Colvin of Glasgow, Scotland."

When Mr. Hathaway came to California from Chicago in the 1930s, he and his parents drove across country. Both Richard and his mother kept journals of that trip.

Mr. Hathaway was preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude B. (Withington)9 Hathaway9, and his parents Charles A. and Julia (Colvin) Hathaway.

He is survived by his daughters, JFA Director, Ann (Hathaway) Cheney10 and her partner Willaim A. Jacobik; Sandra H. Pearson, and Elaine H. Aldridge; six grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
