Karl Robert Junkins

Karl Robert10 Junkins (Thomas Perry9, Charles Lemart8, Thomas7, Samuel6, Samuel5, Samuel4, Joseph3, Alexander2, Robert1), 81, of Maumee, OH died Wednesday, January 28, 2009 at Hospice of Northwest, OH.

He was born in Custer, OH on February 9, 1927 to Thomas9 and Katherine (Hammes) Junkins. In April, 1945, he was drafted into the Army and served two years in the occupation of Japan. In 1947, he hired on to the New York Central Railroad in the engine department and ended his 40 years of service with Conrail. On November 5, 1949, he married Joanne Carolyn Haas, his wife of 59 years.

Karl and Joanne have four daughters: Mary Beth (Junkins) Gratop, Jeanne (Junkins) Horne, Nancy (Junkins) Daniels and Karla (Junkins) Stanton; four sons: Brian, John, Paul and Andrew Junkins; 18 grandchildren, and two great-grandsons.

Karl was a member of the Adams Township American Legion Post No. 553 and Maumee Elks. He was a charter member of the Maumee Senior Center, and Karl and Joanne were charter members of the Junkins Family Association.

Karl and Joanne were instrumental in charting, measuring and recording the exact positions, and the names and epithets on the hundreds of headstones in the eight major Junkins Burial Grounds in the York, ME are.

Karl was buried February 3, 2009 in Resurrection Cemetery, Toledo, OH.
