2014 JFA Reunion, October 10-13, 2014 in York, ME

A block of rooms has been set aside for us at the Microtel Inn and Suites by Wyndham at 6 Market Place Dr., York, ME. Rates are $84.60 per night or $253.80 for three nights. Rooms either have a single queen bed plus a couch or two queen beds. There is a free deluxe complimentary breakfast for guests; coffee is available all day, an indoor pool and hot tub, wi-fi throughout the hotel, and an elevator. All rooms open off indoor hallways. There also is a computer in the lobby that guests may use.

If you have not done so, please book your room right away, at 1-207-363-0800 to ensure that you can get one because the reunion will be over a holiday weekend. Also, be sure to mention that you’re with Junkins Family Association to get the special rate. (You may have to mention the name Mary Junkins, too.)

  • 11:00 – ?? Strawbery Banke, Portsmouth — (14 Hancock St, Portsmouth, NH 03801)

The museum, in the heart of historic downtown Portsmouth, New Hampshire, is an authentic 10-acre outdoor history museum, listed on the National Register of Historic Places and dedicated to bringing 300+ years of American history to life. It is a place to learn about architecture, heritage plants and foodways, traditional crafts and the tools, clothing and collections people used for everyday life in the 1600s, 1700s, 1800s and up through 1954 when the site was saved from urban renewal. (http://www.strawberybanke.org/) Oct. 11 - New Hampshire Fall Festival - & Prescott Park Chili Cook-Off - Celebrate harvest time with Strawbery Banke’s fourth annual New Hampshire Fall Festival.
Experience a traditional New England country fair complete with demonstrations from craftspeople, heritage breed and farm animal exhibits, farm animal and livestock demonstrations, special autumn activities in the Children’s Garden, presentations on heirloom seeds and food preservation tips, fiber arts, demonstrations and exhibits on historic crafts and industries, coopering, harvest-themed crafts in the Family Discovery Center, garden tours and demonstrations. Two Incredible Festivals in One – the Prescott Park Chili Cook-Off will again be held in conjunction with Strawbery Banke Museum's New Hampshire Fall Festival. The Chili Cook-Off presents more than a dozen restaurants from the Seacoast and beyond who serve up their best chili in decorated booths for attendees to sample. Fall Festival 10-5. Chili Cook-off 11:30
until chili is gone. One ticket for both events: $15 adults; $6 children 5-12 . Members of both organizations and children under 5, free.

Sunday, Oct. 12

  • 6:00 – 9:00 Complimentary deluxe continental breakfast (for guests) in hotel lobby
  • 9:30 – 2:30 Junkins’ Day – Exact details have not been determined and the day will be flexible, but we hope to visit the Junkins garrison site and probably one or more of the Junkins’ cemeteries to see the granite markers that have been installed there and learn more about our Junkins ancestors from Alan and Ken Junkins, etc. Alan is working on getting permission for us to visit the McIntire garrison across the road from the Junkins’ garrison site. We plan to have a “box lunch”, on the deck at Alan & Nancy Junkins’ home and then tour the Museums of Old York. (http://www.oldyork.org/)
  • ~2:30-7:00 Free time (more visiting with Junkins, shopping; beach time, etc.)
  • 7:00 – 8:00 Cocktails (cash bar) at The Oar House Restaurant (55 Ceres St, Portsmouth, NH 03801)
  • 8:00 – 11:00 Dinner at The Oar House Restaurant, Short JFA Business Meeting and Entertainment

Monday, Oct. 13

  • 6:00 – 10:00 Complimentary deluxe continental breakfast (for guests) in hotel lobby
  • 8:30 – 10:00 Farewells in hotel lobby
