The 1996 trip to Scotland by the Junkins Family Association has been canceled. After a great deal of effort by Jim Bolles and Karen Spencer of Ancestral Tours to Great Britain, Ltd., it was decided that there were not enough interested parties to make the trip possible. The cost of traveling in today's economy is extremely high and even after working with the tour group to cut the cost by over $600, there were not enough responses to make the trip feasible at this time.
We hope that in the near future, we will be able to reorganize the tour and try again. The Board of Directors will discuss it again at the next board meeting and attempt to bring you a more palatable program for as many Junkins as possible to be able to go back to their roots in Brechin, Scotland. Any ideas you may have on the subject would be greatly appreciated.
Meet Us in York, 1996
Since the reunion in Scotland has been canceled, several cousins have expressed a desire to still have a reunion this year and have an informal weekend event in York, Maine again. Over the next few weeks, we will discuss this and let you know what is decided as soon as possible. If you have any ideas on this, please let me know. Burial Grounds and Memorial Funds
Dues notices were sent out at the end of the year and the response has been good. We have continued to receive donations to the Burial Ground Fund and will hopefully be able to put a black wrought iron fence around the Samuel burial ground this summer at the Highland Farm. And, as you will read elsewhere in this newsletter, we have been able to hire some services done for the burial grounds that we could not do ourselves. The Memorial Marker Fund has reached a little more than halfway toward having the bronze plaque cast. A very nice donation was received in memory of Warren A. Schuster, husband of Evelyn (Junkins) Schuster.
